| Q. |
Do I have to run or can I walk?
A.
No, you are encouraged to walk or run, whatever you are comfortable with. If you feel you want to try running but are unsure, why don?t you try run for 1 minute, walk for 2, run 1 minute, walk for 2, and repeat that for about 10 minutes to start with and then continue your walk. Once you are comfortable with that, try it for 15 minutes and then continue your walk. You could then try running for 2 minutes and walk for 2 minutes for a period of about 10 minutes and then carry on with your walking.
This might get you started with running however, as mentioned above, don?t worry if you walk the important thing is that you are participating.
| Q. |
Do I need my own bike?
A.
Yes, we do not have bikes available to use. Make sure your bike has been checked and is safe. Also, it?s best that it is adjusted to your size as this makes it much more comfortable and efficient.
| Q. |
Will there be water on the course?
A.
You will normally find water on the run/walk portion of the course. You should have some bottled water in your bag at the transition are so you can take a drink after the swim and after the bike. Many people take water on their bike and drink on the bike course. It is advisable that you practice this before the race in a quiet area when you are going slowly. Drinking while you are riding is a skill in itself!! Be careful in windy conditions and make sure you are on clean, clear pavement. Also, remember to drink a little water before you start the race.
| Q. |
If I am a weak swimmer should I just do the Duathlon (Run, Bike, Run)?
A.
Try to get to your local community pool and swim any stroke you want and see how many you can do. The distance for the Try a tri is equivalent to 14 lengths of a 25 metre swimming pool. If you are unsure of the open water swim, I would suggest that you come out to one of our clinics and try the open water swim. We have lifeguards out and lots of qualified swimming people that can help. If you are still unsure, in Milton on the day of the event we have in the past supplied "swim buddies". This is someone who swims along side of you and gives moral support.
| Q. |
What is OAT and why do I have to pay a one day $5.00 fee?
A.
OAT is the Ontario Association of Triathletes. It is the governing body for Triathlon and Duathlon in Ontario. The fee covers the insurance for the participant at OAT sanctioned races. The $5.00 is for that particular race. Please look at the OAT site for more information, www.triathlonontario.com.
| Q. |
Can a United States citizen participate in the triathlon series?
A.
Yes. We would love to have athlete from all corners of the globe enter our events.
It's easy to register.
Just go online. Your Visa will show the cost in CDN funds and you will pay in US funds.
By the way, what a bargain for you.
Race day insurance is included in the fee.
| Q. |
I have sent in my registration, what happens next?
A.
Please arrive on race day with all of your race gear and proceed to the registration area. You will not receive a confirmation from us. On race morning, go to the registration tables and pick up your race kit, T-shirt, race number, OAT insurance bracelet and get body marked.
By registering online you can get immediate confirmation.
| Q. |
I am 66 years old and have never done anything like this. I can do all three on there own but am unsure about putting it all together especially if the race day conditions are poor.
A.
I cannot promise ideal conditions, certainly not when you mean the weather. I would suggest that you train inadverse conditions and that will improve your confidence.
| Q. |
What kind of wetsuit should I use, or is just a normal speedo ok?
A.
If you have the use of a wetsuit I would suggest that you try to use it especially if the water is really cold.
Our events can usually be done without a wetsuit.
May I recommend that you do the entire event in your "SPEEDO". Put on cycling shorts over your swimsuit for the bike portion of the race. There are a lot of options. Try the various versions when you can and of course preferably before the event.
| Q. |
I am 37, been running for a year and wonder what is a good finishing time to shoot for in the Super Sprint Triathlon?
A.
This if difficult to answer as I do not know your abilities.
Try this scenario:
375 meter swim is 15 lengths of a 25 meter pool, time yourself or have someone time you.
10-12 Km. on the bike, allow 30 min.
2.5 km run allow between 15/20 min. depending on your talents. This is probably pretty generous.
Hope this helps.
| Q. |
What do i need in the swim/bike transition, bike shorts, socks, sneakers, etc. Any must have, or can't have items for the beginner?
A.
If you have a good quality bathing suit you can easily do the entire triathlon wearing it.
You might want to put on a shirt after the swim for the bike and run portions if it is cold.
You might want to put cycling short over you bathing suit for the cycle portion.
May I suggest you try some of these scenarios.
If money is not an issue there are some fabulous tri-suits.
You would be well advised to obtain a good pair of running shoes.
Try running with and without socks, this is a very personal preference.
| Q. |
Do I need to ask someone to "guard" my bike and belongings while I run--or will there be people there to watch my things? I am a solo athlete.
A.
Your bike will be racked and in a "corral" and there will be security at all times.
In fact we only allow athletes in the bike racking area.
| Q. |
how old do you have to be?
A.
It was decided that age ten would be youngest you could be. You do have to have a parent sign the waiver at race registration.
| Q. |
I want to try-a-tri, just to complete the distance, but am really overweight and would have to go really slow. Is that ok? Can I take 90 minutes to do the super sprint when everyone else is finishing in under an hour?
A.
Congratulations for deciding to participate in a try-a-tri.
You can take a as long as you want. There is no time cut off.
| Q. |
Can I do the running part of the duathlon only?
A.
The only event we have that is a team event is the Sprint Triathlon Relay in Milton. In order to participate in this event you will need to find someone to do the swim and bike portions of the event.
We do no have running only events in this series.
| Q. |
I would like to do the running part but not the biking or the swimming.
A.
See answer to above question.
May I suggest that you come to an event and be a spectator or volunteer and perhaps you can find a couple of interested athletes who would like to make a team for the Sprint Triathlon Relay in Milton.
| Q. |
In Duathlon, from run to bike transition do most competitors have their shoes already clipped into the pedals before they get on the bike, putting their feet into the shoes as they ride?
A.
This is something that the PRO's do.
Do not attempt to this unless you are a very skilled cyclist.
| Q. |
Where Can I find Rules for the Triathalon?
A.
Try the OAT website. I think we have a link.
| Q. |
The registration form asked for O.A.T. # - I participated in the race last year - where can I get this number?
A.
You must register every year with OAT.
| Q. |
What is the most important thing we should know about transitions?
A.
Always wear you helmet strapped as you walk your bike in and out of the bike corral.
| Q. |
During the swim can any stroke be used, front crawl, or side stroke, etc?
A.
Yes!
| Q. |
How much of the torso needs to be covered? Is a two-piece workout swimsuit acceptable?
A.
Yes.
| Q. |
Registration fees are not refundable, but are they transferrable to a different race?
A.
Under certain conditions we have applied race fees to a different race.
| Q. |
Can a duathlon be: swim, run? If so what distances would be involved and dates?
A.
We do not provide this race format.
| Q. |
What type of bottom does Destiny Lake have? (eg. clay bottom) Does the swim start from shore or from a treading water point?
A.
Destiny Lake has an unusual swim start. The swimmers will start from shore and enter the water 5 seconds apart.
I do not believe that this lake has a clay bottom. I do not at this time know what kind of bottom but will endevour to find out
| Q. |
Is a container of water needed at the transition to clean feet before the bike ride?
A.
If you want to clean your feet after the swim portion and before you start the bike ride, you will have to provide your own means to do that.
| Q. |
How many people on a team for the relay in Milton? How far is each event in the relay?
A.
A minimum of two people are required for a team. The distances are the same as the super sprint traithlon - 750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run
| Q. |
I have a mountain bike. Is this okay for the Give-it-A-Try? Would it be better to switch the tires to smoother ones?
A.
A mountain bike is fine. Of course it is less effort to ride your bike when you switch to smoother tires and you could use that energy to go faster.
| Q. |
I am registered for the Super Sprint Triathlon. What order do the events go in? Is it swim, bike, run?
A.
You are absolutely right. All triathlons use this sequence unless otherwise stated.
| Q. |
How much time do you have in the transition area? Also is the time stopped when you are in the transition area?
A.
You can take all the time you want but the clock keeps on ticking. In other words the transition is part of the event. May I suggest you practice transitions.
We will be doing just that in some of our clinics.
| Q. |
I keep hearing people talk about "try a tri", what does it mean?
A.
It has become to mean a short distance triathlon. Usually anything refered to as a "try-a-tri" has very short distances and is very do-able for all. Minimal training is necessary. The Ontario Women's Triathlon Series use the official terminology of Super Sprint Traithlon.
| Q. |
I am entered in the Sprint event and plan to use my mountain bike. Is there a division for mountain bikes? Should I change my tires ( slicks) for the race? Is it difficult to adjust to using slicks?
A.
there is no special division for mountain bikes.
I personally would change the tires from mountain bikes tires to "road" tires.
You will love the change especially on the road.
Give yourself some time to train on them.
| Q. |
Do you have to be in the same age group to have a team for the Triathlon Relay?
A.
No.
| Q. |
For the swim part of the Milton Tri does everyone start at once? If so, should I be worried about being kicked or pushed in the water since everyone is swimming in a huge group?
A.
If you are concerned about being kicked or pushed. I suggest you start at the back of your wave, in other words let the others go ahead of you and then begin.
| Q. |
I read in the rules that "drafting" is not allowed. I'm not really sure what this is. Could you explain it? Is it something that I could do without realising it (and thus getting myself in big trouble)?
A.
Drafting if when you ride very close to another cyclist. Unless you have many years of cycling experience I suggest that your do not do this.
We are only concerned about your safety and should you get a warning from an official it will probably be over concern for your safety.
| Q. |
I was a spectator at the Orangeville Event and will be a participant for the first time at the Milton event. Will the starting of the Duathlon be similar to that of Orangeville - Starting an hour after the Triathlon begins?
A.
The start of the duathlon will not be the same as in Orageville. Depending on numbers we hope to do it simultaneously but we are concerned about bike safety and we might have to start the duathlon after all the swim waves have begun.
Stay tuned we hope to let you know exactly several days prior to the event.
| Q. |
For the Milton triathlon, is it a mass start for the swimming, or are people put in groups and start at different time intervals?
A.
Milton triathlon is NOT a mass start. We will send out on your swim in wavesof 50-60 per wave.
Depending on the number of athletes that might change slightly.
| Q. |
Is it possible to obtain the email address of a fellow competitor that I met during one of the races - she lives in another town and I'd like to stay in contact over the winter.
A.
we would prefer not. we are looking into some kind of communication between our athletes. Keep checking our website for this update.
| Q. |
I would like to try the sprint triathalon - but am not sure if I'll be ready by the date. Can I sign up for the sprint and then switch to the tri-a-tri if I don't feel comfortable at the last minute?
A.
we do not encourage race changes, specially at the last minute. If you do feel you want to change please let us know about 10 days prior to the event. Changes are a logistical nightmare for us and the sooner we know the better.
FYI no refund will be issued
| Q. |
While I am thinking of competing in one of your races for the first time, I would like to open up the possibility of volunteering. I feel that if I volunteer for an event, it would further motivate me to compete. How would I go about volunteering?
A.
You can just show up on raace day, or contact us by email via the website.
| Q. |
I'm planning on doing the Milton Super Sprint as my first tri, however, I'm concerned about what to wear. I'm a larger busted lady (36D) and cannot run without full support (i.e. not in a regular one piece bathing suit). Should I just plan to wear my regular running gear and change somewhere? Or is there a better option that will be quicker?
A.
MY SUGGESTION IS TO WEAR YOUR SUPPORT BRA UNDER YOU SWIMSUIT. BE SURE TO TRAIN WITH THIS CLOTHING A FEW TIMES BEFORE THE EVENT.
AFTER THE SWIM YOU CAN ADD A CYCLING JERSEY AND/OR CYCLING SHORTS.
PRACTICE WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT SCENARIOS.
| Q. |
I did my first triathelon last year that was sponsored by weight watchers and they were so supportive and friendly. This year I choose a give it a tri in Mississauga because of the flat course. Easier on my bad knees. I am concerned because I am overweight that their won't be as much support for me at this non weight watchers event. What can I expect?
A.
THIS IS A DIFFICULT QUESTION TO ANSWER. MOST MULTISPORT EVENTS HAVE A SIMILAR FORMAT. THE BIGGIST CONCERN AT ALL TRIATHLONS/DUATHLONS IS SAFETY. I THINK YOU CAN EXPECT A SAFE WELL RUN EVENT. IF YOU ARE AMONG THE LAST YOU COULD PERHAPS FIND THAT THERE ARE NOT AS MANY PEOPLE TO GREET YOU AT THE FINISH LINE.
| Q. |
I will be partcipating in the TRI in Milton. I have been swimming regularly, but every once in a while I get a terrible muscle spasm in my calf, is there anything I can do to prevent this?
A.
you should consult with a medical expert to answer this question. There are many reasons for muscle spasm and each situation needs to be adressed on its own.
| Q. |
Can we have a person assist us at the transition areas for the SST?
A.
no. no. no.
| Q. |
This is my first Duathlon and I think I'll be able to run/jog the 5k, but not so sure about the 10k biking - are you disqualified if you get off your bike and walk (up a hill, for example). My bike is not fancy and I'll probably be in one gear the whole way so just wondered?
A.
No.
| Q. |
how do I find a lifegurd?
A.
If you can just wave your arm above your head. perhpas you should aks for a swim buddy. This is a serive we provide for any swimmer who perhaps is challenging herslef with the distance. A swim buddy is someone who swims right beside you.
| Q. |
i'm doing the 20km part of the course at milton with my team and am worried about the hills.. this is my first time and i'm affraid that i will let me team down..
A.
Just agreeing to do the bike course makes you a committed team member. The course is not without hills. May I suggest your perfect your shifting skills and have a bike safety check.
Just have fun.
| Q. |
can i bring a walkman to keep me motivated?
A.
No. Walkman's are disallowed by OAT our provincial governing body.
| Q. |
I would like the Super Sprint Duathlon in Milton to be my first duathlon but I have missed all of the clinics that deal with things like transitions (it's already Aug 11). I am aware of the rules regarding duathlons. Is it still OK for me to register? What if I make mistakes?
A.
There will be volunteers everywhere on race day to help you.
Just register and go for it. It is unlikely that your will make a mistake.
The most important rule is safety.
Be sure do buckle your helmet and do not ride your bike in the transition zone. Mount and dismount your bike when told by the oficials and all will be fine.
| Q. |
How difficult is the bike portion of the Super Sprint in Milton - is it a flat, hilly or rolling course?
A.
Not difficult.
Check the website for more details next week.
| Q. |
do I need to request a swim buddy ahead of time? (or is race day OK)
A.
It is helpful to know ahead of time that way we will have enough race "buddies" available.
You could email we directly at directly at
tina@womenstriathlon.com
| Q. |
is the Milton Tri a Weight Watcher's sponsored event?
A.
Yes. Weight Watcher's sponsored the entire series on the strength of the milton event.
| Q. |
Is there a good place for my husband and children to set up to watch me at the Milton Tirathlon?
A.
yes there is. Milton is very spectator friendly. Come early and they will find many areas where they will be able to see you.
| Q. |
I am competing in the Try a Tri with 5 other friends. We cover 3 different age groups (one is 12 years old, one is in the 30-39, the rest in the 40-49 group). We have been training together and were hoping to compete in the same heat. If we check in all together will that happen, or are the heats done by age grouping, or alphabetically or some other way?
A.
The "waves" go by age. The youngest will go first. There are approx. 75 athletes per wave. Some of you may find yourselves in the same wave.
| Q. |
Are helmets mandatory?
A.
Yes!
| Q. |
I have two concerns regarding the run and bike portion of the Sprint triathalon. Is the running portion on dirt or paved pathways, and if paved, why is this necessary? And less of a concern, a long sentence, for the bike portion, are there alternatives, in spite of the escarpment, to a route which conisists of two turn-arounds and back tracking, yet remaining relatively flat?
A.
The run portions of both events are in the park. We have used the roadways provided. Some are gravel and some are paved.
The bike course does not conist of going up the escarpment.
Check the website for a bike map and perhpas you will create an opportunity for yourself the ride the course prior to the event.
| Q. |
What is the usual gear(s) to use for the biking in the super sprint? Any hint on changing gears?
A.
Difficult question to answer. We dealt with this subject extensively at our clinics.
We you peddling falls below 80 rpm's it is time to shift your gears.
You could purchase a cycle "computer" to give you this information.
It is a little late to learn this for the Milton event but give it consideration for the next season.
| Q. |
Is it legal to tie a balloon to my backpack in the transition area so that I can find my bike easily?
A.
I am not saying you can't but am suggesting that you do not.
It could become a hazard int the transition zone.
| Q. |
As running that we start with in a Duathalon, what can i wear ? Do you recommend running in cycling shorts?
A.
If you have cycling shorts that are comfortable on the bike and do not chafe on the run, wear them. Remember there is not place to change .
| Q. |
Will all the places/times be posted from the Milton SSTri, or just the top 50 or so?
A.
Check our website. All times and placings will be posted.
| Q. |
Just did the run portion of the relay in Milton and I noticed that the distance seemed to be shorter than last year - there was a small loop down a hill and back that we did not do this year - was the distance shortened from 5k and if so, what was the total run distance? My time just seemed unbelievable for a 5k distance. Great fun as usual!
A.
It was brought to my attention that the downhill loop was not run on the sprint triathlon. This was definitely a mistake on our part. We should have had a marshall directing the athletes down that hill and back the same as 2002. My apologies.
That loop according to my car is apprx. 1 km.
| Q. |
The run portion of the Milton Sprint was supposed to be 5km, but the race results clearly indicate that it was less than that. What were the actual distance for each portion of the sprint triathlon?
A.
The swim portions was exactly 750 meters.
The bike portion was also accurate.
The run portion was short by 1km.
| Q. |
when will this site switch over to next summer's events???
A.
we are presently in the process of scheduling for the summer of 2004. It can tke some time to secure the sites we would like and to confirm our prefered dates. Rest assured that we will be back with a series and lots more. You keep checking the website.
| Q. |
Is there any chance that vegetarian barbecue items can be offered at the post-race meal? Many of us don't eat meat or poultry products. Thanks for considering this request.
A.
Our sponsor MapleLodge Farms does not provide vegetarian food.
We will be providing bagels, yogurt, and fruits if there is something specific that you require may I suggest that you bring it yourself.
It is very difficult for us to cater to every need.
| Q. |
I am hard of hearing -- virtually deaf without my hearing aid. I am planning on doing the tri in Milton. I would have my hearing aid in the transition area, I would think. Are there any other considerations to think of? I will not be able to hear from the time I leave my aid to begin the swim until I get it again for the cycle. I do lipread and know sign language. Are there accomodations made for hearing loss? How do participants know to begin?
A.
Your difficulty does not pose a huge problem. You will be provided with a specific colour bathing cap and you will go in the water with only this group.
We can provide for your friend or a buddy to let you know when the swim starts.
Better yet come to the Aug. clinic when we do a "dress rehearsal". This will quiet all your doubts.
| Q. |
I would like to TRY a TRI...what time do you hold that event...Last?
A.
The last event of the season is the Sunday of the long week-end in September. This year that will be on the fifth.
For ten years now we have held the Milton triathlon/duathlon on this date.
| Q. |
Do I need to be on Weight Watcher's to participate in these events?
A.
No anyone older that 10 can enter any event of the Ontario Women's Triathlon Series.
We no longer have a title sponsor.
| Q. |
Are participants sent out in 'waves' according to the age group categories in which we registered?
A.
Yes. We hope that the swim waves will not be larger than 70 ladies at a time in the interest of safety, which of course is one of our biggest concerns.
In Orangeville tha athletes will be entering the water individually and not in "waves".
| Q. |
Is there more information on the Miltary event this year?
A.
You can nor register as a Military participant. This is a new category for us and for this year we are making only two catergories under 40 and over 40.
We plan to reasses this for the 2005 season.
| Q. |
When looking at result times, where are the transitions included (i.e. I am entering my first triathlon this year, and am trying to guess how I'll do, and wasn't sure how long transitions take, or where that time is included).
A.
Generally the timing takes place as you enter and exit the bike corral. This means that the transition times will be inlcuded in the bike portion.
However, with any luck we hope to provide you with the transition times as well.
This can be difficult because our events are short.
| Q. |
this will be our first triathlon and i was wondering which clinic would be the best to attend. We were wondering what the June 8 brick clinic entailed?
A.
May I suggest that you do a clinic that includes an open water swim.
The Aug. clinic teaches you to put it all together but if you plan you first triathlon for Orangeville do the June one.
| Q. |
I live in the Whitby area, could suggest stores in my area that carry the wet suits for racing, to buy or rent?
A.
Our sponsor Spokes 'n Slopes will be providing some wetsuits to try at our open water swim clinics.
I am personally not familiar with retailers in your area, perhaps someone who reads this can provide me with this information.
e.braam@sympatico.com
| Q. |
I read about your association and am keen to participate. It is May 2/04 and are there any clinics for the triathalon that I could attend and still try for one of your races near the end of the summer.I live in Waterloo Thanks Marie
A.
You could attend the clinics on June 8 and June 22 and do any to the three events in the Ontario Womens Triathlon Series.
Check the website for details and how to register online.
| Q. |
Can I attend your clinic in June if I am doing the TriATri in Lakeside?
A.
Of Course. Look forward to meeting you.
| Q. |
what's the best way to fuel up 1 week before a race?
A.
Difficult question to anwer. May I suggest that you get your carbo meal on Friday evening if you are doing a Sunday event. You should be eating nutritionally well at all time and never forget that hydrating should be a permanent part of your life whether you excercise or not.
| Q. |
I read that Try-A-Tri'ers at the Grimsby event can touch the bottom. I have a phobia of deep water and before I take the plunge (no pun intended) and register, i wanted to know how far out is the Grimsby Try-A-Tri course?
A.
Check the website and you will see that we swim along the shoreline. The water where we swim is not deep.
We can provide you with a swim buddy who will swim beside you for the entire 375 meters. So go ahead and resgister.
| Q. |
I want to register for the Grimbsy tri in August. Can't make either of the other two. Is there a minium number of registrants required to ensure it isn't cancelled.
A.
The only reason we would cancel an event is, if it is dangerous. So go ahead and register.
| Q. |
Are you continuing to continue updating the training plans. The last one is for the week ending May 9th
A.
Yes! So glad to read that they are useful.
My apologies. I have been away on holiday to the World Triathlon Championships in Madeira.
The training plans are my week-end project. In the meantime repeat one of the previous weeks plans.
| Q. |
TINA, I'M PLANNING ON ENTERING MY TRI -A-TRY IN MILTON, I'M SOMEWHAT HESITANT ABOUT THE SWIM PORTION,WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST FOR TRAINING FOR THE EVENT, AND PREPARING MYSELF BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY. THANKS SO MUCH, PATTY HIBRANT
A.
Congratulations for seriously considering to Try-a-Tri.
The swim portion of the triathlon can be the most daunting of the disciplines.
May I suggest that you do the distance in a pool. This would be 15 lengths of a 25 meter pool.
Once you know you can do this distance you must do the same outdoors in a lake.
Choose an open water swim area that allows you to stand anytime that you need and bring a swim buddy and just keep on trying.
Better yet register for the clinics and we will provide you with the confidence and guidance that you need. Please be confident that on race day we can provide you with a swim buddy.
| Q. |
How do I volunteer to be a swim buddy? Do I need to be a life guard?
A.
Just come to the race where you plan to be a buddy and introduce yourself to the person who is co-ordinating volunteers and find any member of the OWTS committee.
You do not need to be a life guard just a confident swimmer.
| Q. |
Tina, I was wondering about the Grimsby Tri, and wondering about the cleanliness of the water. At what point would you decide that the water is or isn't safe to swim in and how would you decide this? Thanks!

A.

It has always been the policy that if the Ministry of Health closes down a beach due to the coliform count, then we would cancel the swim. In the case of Lake Ontario, all the information is posted on the Ministry of Health website. Also, we check on the Friday before the race.
MOH closes beaches when the E.coli is greater that 100cfu per 100 ml. of sample.
In europe, they don't close a beach till the count is 1000 CFU per 100 ml.

| Q. |
Do you offer a training schedule for the sprint duathlons?
A.
At present we will not be providing a training program for duathlons.
You could alter the triathlon program by exchanging the swims for an extra run and an extra bike.
Keep in mind that it is not a good idea to do hard workouts back to back.

I was wondering what the clinic agenda for July 13 was going to be? Also do we change after our swim?
A.
This clinic will once again focus on open water swimming.
You may if you like change after the swim. The best idea is to wear what you plan to wear on race day.
Just keep checking the website and we will soon have the complete agenda available for you.

| Q. |
I am interested in doing a sprint. My swimming is not great. I can do 750-1000 m without too much problem, however, I have to do breast stroke. Should I even be considering a sprint at this point, or should I wait until I have the freestroke down? (I can do maximum 75 m at a time doing freestroke/frontcrawl--are these the same thing?). An associate at work does tris and she said that only freestrok is fast enough. I guess I don't want to make a fool of myself.
A.
THERE IS NO RULE THAT REQUIRES YOU TO SWIM FREESTYLE. BY ALL MEANS ENTER THE SPRINT EVENT AND CONSIDER TAKING SWIM INSTRUCTION DURING THE OFF SEASON TO IMPROVE YOUR FREESTYLE.
IN OUR EVENTS EVERYONE WHO COMPLETES WHAT THEY STARTED IS A WINNER.

| Q. |
Does the duathlon in Orangeville have the same start time and format as the Triathlon? Three of us have entered, each in a different event, and we are trying to coordinate our spouses/supporters!
A.
THE ADVANTAGE OF THE ORANGEVILLE SITE IS THAT EVERYTHING IS CLOSE TOGETHER AND ANY SPECTATORS CAN WITNESS ALMOST ALL THAT IS HAPPENING.
THE FORMAT HAS NOT BEEN DECIDED YET BUT WE WILL BE SENDING A MASS EMAILING SEVERAL DAYS PRIOR TO THE EVENT THAT SHOULD ANSWERS MOST OF YOUR QUESTIONS.
| Q. |
Will wetsuits be available for trying at the July 13th clinic at Kelso?
A.
I think not but I will try to have some available.
| Q. |
What time does registration open this coming sunday July 18th?
A.
It opens at 7:30 AM. You will be receiving an email with more detail, if you are on our emailing list.
| Q. |
I am interested in the Grimsby Tri in August. I am coming fom out of town and I am just wondering when I need to arrive in the morning. I may need to find somewhere to stay for the night if registration is too early. Thanks.
A.
REGISTRATION WILL START AT 7:00 am AND THE EVETNS AT 9:00am.
| Q. |
For the swim portion in Grimsby & Milton do you need aqua shoes or is it safe for bare feet?
A.
I BELIEVE THAT YOU DO NOT NEED AQUA SHOES. HOWEVER, IF WOULD SUGGEST THAT IF YOU HAVE A PAIR BRING THEM WITH YOU.
| Q. |
i have a dd cup size, and want to compete in a triahlon. Do you know where I might find a sports bra that works, and will dry quickly?
A.
HAVE YOU CHECKED ON THE CANAQUA WEBSITE?
THIS IS ALWAYS A TOUGH QUESTION.
HAVE YOU TRIED "THE RUNNING COMPANY". THEY HAVE WOMEN'S SPORTS CLOTHING BY "BROOKS".
IF ALL ELSE FAILS WEAR YOUR MOST SUPPORTIVE REGULAR BRA UNDER YOUR SWIMSUIT.
| Q. |
I just did my first super sprint duathalon in Milton. I've just recently taken up running again, about 3- 5 km, a couple of days a week, hopefully to increase this to more. Where can I get information in order to learn how to train for these mini-duathalons, as well as how to eat year long, and the week prior to the race?
A.
The committe of the Ontario womens Triathlon Series is constantly trying to provide that information by organizing clinics and adding information on our website.
We hope to have more links this year than last year.
| Q. |
I am 13 and considering entering a triathlon of some sort which event should I enter? I can easily swim 800m and I have run in a 10k race but never a triathalon.
A.
Why not choose to do the sprint triathlon.
Since you can already run the necessary distance and swimming will not be a problem, you have until the summer to prepare yourself to cylce 20km. I belive that it is duable considering the time span.
| Q. |
You specified in your tri rules that torsos must be covered at all times yet you also answered a question about a two-piece swimsuit and deemed this appropriate apparel. Which is it? Does the torso have to be fully covered or partially?
A.
Torso covered is actually a tri rule for men.
There is no objection to women wearing a two piece swimsuit.
| Q. |
Will the 2005 Milton SST run portion be on the same course as last year? I found the terrain a bit difficult, and would like to prepare more if it is the same.
A.
Yes.
Ocasionally we need to change the bike course due to road construction. Something over which we have no control.
It is important to us that we provide a safe course and if that means changes will do so.
