June 8th Clinic
- Some Hard
Work and Honest Talk
Tina Braam writes about the first OWTS clinic which took place
at Kelso on July 8:
The biggest question greeting me on Tuesday was to what degree
our training programs could be altered to suit family and personal
needs. It was decided as a group that family time was too important
to compromise for training, but could we instead include the
family in the training process? Some of the workouts I suggest
include being timed, and this could be incorporated as a family
activity.
We decided that paddling in a boat (which some families do
together in the summer) is similar to a swim workout and that
these could be considered interchangeable exercises.
The fact that training is six days a week has not gone unnoticed.
Some might make a serious attempt to put all of their week's
discipline into a single workout. This is not the ideal concept,
but can be acceptable if it is the only alternative.
All the ladies in attendance seem to be very creative in their
efforts to follow their training programs and they all worked
very hard on the 1st clinic - Bravo!
It was, I must say, one of the most strenuous clinics we have
ever provided. But we do it only because we care (insert evil
laughter here)!
Approximately 20 women showed up at this clinic, and we look
forward to many more showing up! Please check our website for
clinic details. The next one is June 22 (that's very soon)
at Kelso, so sign up now! When you attend a clinic, you will
also be able to check out our fantastic new wearables line
produced by our sponsor Canaqua
Sports.
Convert the Un-Tri'ed!
- Sign up as a Group!
As dedicated participants, you are the best ambassadors for the OWTS. Tell everyone
you know about it. It's amazing how quickly women get excited about this event
when they learn how supportive and fun it is!
Signing up a Group is Easy!
If you register a group between 3 and 10 members in size, each person in your
group will be entered into a draw for dinner to be enjoyed at a local restaurant
right after the triathlon event you race in (to a maximum of 10 people)! That's
right - immediate payoff! Whether it be you and some gal pals, you and family,
or you and coworkers, a group is a group.
How do you identify your group? When each group member registers, they must enter
their own name and then your group name in brackets (be imaginative). For instance:
Sue Brown ('The Kick Butts'). Remember this name so we know your group exists!
We Need Vivacious Volunteers!
We are looking for energetic volunteers for the Orangeville event on July 18th
(volunteers will receive a T-shirt, lunch, snacks and beverages, and - most importantly
- help us to provide a great experience for our participants!).
We need volunteers
for two shifts: 7:00-11:00am and 8:30-12:30am.
If you would like to help out, e-mail us at info@womenstriathlon.com. Simply
indicate your T-shirt size (M,L,XL) and the shift you would like to work. Tweens
and teenagers are welcome to help out too! We provide a signed sheet for high
school students looking for credit toward their volunteer service for graduation.
Order us in for a Lunch 'n Tri at your Workplace!
Do you work with other women who hear you talking about the triathlon but who
need a little boost to get involved? If you work within 50 km of our HQ (Milton),
one or two energized OWTS committee members would be willing to host a 45 minute,
pumped-up, Lunch 'n Tri session at your workplace. Where else would you get a
Home Visit??? Yes, we will arrive at your work location and lead a dynamic information
session for your interested coworkers. All you need to do is to ensure that there
are a minimum of five women registered to attend this session and give us at
least
1 week's lead time.
Please call Sue Leeder at 905-878-7329/905-691-7050 or e-mail info@womenstriathlon.comif you would like to order your Lunch 'n Tri session today!
