Training Centre
So, you've decided to try a triathlon and wondering where to begin. There is unlimited amounts of information available, and we've put together some of it to get you started. The OWT team will continue to add information and resources, and would appreciate any feedback or links you think would be beneficial to other women participating in the sport.
How to Begin:
- Determine what distance you want to do, and then you will need to have a training plan for that distance (check out resources for links to plans and more).
- Time is always a factor - so make sure you build a plan around your home/work life.
- Triathlon gear can become costly, but before you spend a lot of money, you can get by with the following for your first triathlon:
| |
Swim:
- Bathing suit
- Swim cap
- Goggles
- Wetsuits (can be rented if you want to try one)
|
|
| |
Bike:
- Bicycle: use what you have for the first one whether it's a mountain
bike, hybrid or road bike.
- Helmut: this is an absolute must and you will not be able to race without one
- Sunglasses
|
|
| |
Run:
- Running shoes
- Hat & sunglasses
|
|
- Take on OWT Clinic. We suggest participating in all three triathlon clinics, the swim clinic and the bike clinic is extremely beneficial to understand your bike and most importantly - how to change a flat tire.
- Understand a little about Nutrition. This is just as important as having all the gear as you want to make sure you are hydrated and nourished while training and on race day.
- Start training and HAVE FUN! You may also want to look into a coach and or triathlon club to help keep you on track and motivated.
- Race Day: To be prepared make sure you download this quick OWT Race Day Checklist and Guide.
